What is Tancredi Colon Cancer Prevention Foundation

The Tancredi Colon Cancer Prevention Foundation (TCCPF), was founded in May 2004 by Jim Tancredi of Wilmington, Delaware.  Both of Jim’s parents, Jean and Don Tancredi of Wilmington, were diagnosed with colorectal cancer in June 2000 and December 2003, respectively.  Jim’s mother passed away on May 19th, 2004, from complications of the disease including metastasis to her liver and lungs.  His father away on September 30, 2009, as a result of complications associated with his cancer. 

In watching the progression of their disease, Jim came to realize that no one should have to suffer the physical and emotional torture that they endured.  As a result of this realization, Jim Tancredi founded the TCCPF in an effort to spread an important message to all that will listen.

Our Mission

The mission of the foundation is to promote appropriate colorectal cancer screening methods to everyone, and to continually stress the importance of colorectal cancer prevention through early detection.

Partnerships and Alliances

In an effort to help promote the importance of colorectal cancer awareness and prevention, the Tancredi Colon Cancer Prevention Foundation has formed partnerships and alliances with a host of advocates. 

Partnerships

We have formed a partnership with Colon Health Centers of America, a company providing state of the art virtual colonoscopy services.  Virtual colonoscopy exhibits nearly the same degree of accuracy that a standard colonoscopy delivers.  Most health insurance carriers cover the exam, and a virtual colonoscopy is significantly less invasive and expensive than a traditional colonoscopy.

Virtual colonoscopy is the future for colorectal cancer screening, and Colon Health Centers of America is using its version of virtual colonoscopy on the front lines in the war against colon cancer.

Alliances

As important as our partnership with Colon Health Centers of America, are the alliances we have formed to promote colorectal cancer awareness and prevention.  Each of these alliances uniquely assists in our efforts to heighten colorectal cancer awareness.

Delaware Cancer Consortium
Jim Tancredi is a 5 year member of the Delaware Cancer Consortium a team of governmental officials, doctors, and public citizens empowered to structure programs designed to reduce the incidence of cancer in the State of Delaware.  The team has provided remarkable results in its fight against cancer in the First State, and it continues to progress forward to better the already formidable efforts applied over the past 8 years.

Screening for Life
The Delaware Cancer Consortium is responsible for the development of the Screening for Life program an initiative designed to provide cancer screenings free of charge for Delaware residents who do not have health insurance coverage.  An individual’s inability to produce health insurance to cover the cost of screening should not deprive them of the right to discover cancer before it’s too late to effectively treat the disease.  The Screening for Life program provides a bridge from the world of no health coverage to the world of medical care capable of diagnosing pre-cancerous or cancerous condition at no charge to the patient.

Big Blue Quest
The Big Blue Quest is a colorectal cancer initiative developed, produced, and hosted buy some very special members of the Allegheny General Hospital’s colorectal cancer treatment program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Each year the Big Blue Quest reaches out t thousands of Western Pennsylvanian’s to promote colorectal cancer awareness. 

As a show of unity, the Tancredi Colon Cancer Prevention Foundation has participated in this event for the last 5 years.  Not only are the Allegheny staffers dedicated to this effort, they happen to be the very people who assisted in the management and care of Jim Tancredi’s mother during her battle with colon cancer.  The Allegheny Hospital team is comprised of some of the best doctors, nurses, and assistants in the medical field. 

The Tancredi Colon Cancer Prevention Foundation applauds the dedication and tireless efforts of those associated with the Big Blue Quest.
